I have a Gaggenau SD6P1GG (E Number DF240161/16) that is internally identical to some Bosch machines.

The bottom spray arm in not spraying at all.  There are no blockages in the arm itself, and there is plenty of water pressure getting up to the top sprayer, so I assume the pump is OK.

There appears to be some type of valve in the feed to the bottom arm.  Could this be faulty?  Does this machine spray out top and bottom simultaneously, or does it cycle between the two?

The machine is filling up fine, and the top sprayer/shelf if working perfectly.  This is a slight knocking noise from the machine when filling, when washing and when draining, which seems to be new.

Any hints/suggestions much appreciated.

I have since opened the bottom cover of my dishwasher.  The problem appears to be a valve/solenoid just below the bottom spray arm feed. I assume this is a valve that opens and closes to feed water to the lower spray arm outlet.  That makes sense, as the upper spray arm is working perfectly.

The valve thumps about 3 times every two seconds, and you can see movement.  I assume this is the faulty part.

Can anyone confirm is this part can be replaced individually, or is it part of the entire lower sump/pump system?

...any assistance appreciated.

Unfortunately I cannot even pull the parts lists or diagram for this model so you may have to go directly to the manufacturer for this one..A lot of these smaller manufacturers or out of US manufacturers are not really helpful in this sort of thing.. maybe because they prefer you get repair through them or even buy a new appliance.

Solved!  Turns out its a "water flow diverter valve", available online from Bosch for about $50, and plenty of used ones on eBay.  The synchronous motor had failed.

Pain to disassemble and replace, but all OK now and working.
