About a week ago, my dishwasher got stuck in the  heated dry stage of  a wash cycle and it burned the bottom dish rack. Then a  day or two later, I noticed a burning smell coming from the washer about 5 minutes into wash cycle. I checked for any utensils that may have fallen on heating element and there weren't any. I also checked for any melted plastic and there was none.  I pulled the unit out and examined it and didn't see anything noticeably wrong. I did notice that the odor was not coming from inside the unit, but from the top of the unit somewhere.  I tried running the washer without soap and there was no odor. I then ran washer with soap immediately after and the smell returned. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

This is a GE Brand washer
Model: GSD3340D35SA
I purchased it refurbished.  I am not certain how old it is.

Hello,

The burning smell is likely coming from the heating element or possibly the motor if you notice the smell when there is no drying action going on.. Perhaps something is leaking onto the motor or perhaps something is hung up in the pump attached to the motor but that is where I would start by accessing the motor underneath to see if you can pinpoint the smell to the motor ..this is the motor/pump assembly for your dishwasher https://www.appliancezone.com/wd26x10051-ge-dishwasher-pump-motor/
