Our dryer won't actually spin. We took it all the way apart and tried to run it with the drum and belt removed, but it still did not spin. The dryer worked absolutely perfect until we moved houses, and now that we have relocated the dryer it does not work.

Please see the video attached. As shown in the video, we have electricity to the dryer based on the display board. When trying to start the dryer, it will hum for a few seconds, and then stop. Some smoke will emerge from the motor. No error message pops up on the display board, while the time on the cycle will just continue to count down until it is over with, while nothing actually happens.

Can anyone help diagnose this problem to help us to fix it ourselves? My hunch is a faulty motor...

Thanks

It does sound like the motor has gone bad. Check the blower wheel to ensure that it is not obstructed. Does the drum rotate if you try to turn it by hand with the belt removed?  If the drum does not rotate freely, something may be causing the drum to bind. If the drum turns freely and the blower wheel is clear of obstructions, the drive motor is more than likely defective. Do you have the model number of the dryer?
