I have a jennaire built in oven and microwave combo,  getting close to years old but would like to salvage if possible.  The microwave appears to function fine in most ways,  digital display and light works fine. When you put a time in to heat, it just clicks and starts to count down but nothing is actually happening as far as heating.   I've watched a few trouble shooting videos but not sure i have proper tools to test some components.   I had thought it was the diode but got a replacement and still doesn't work.  Thoughts?

Hello,
I cannot really offer any suggestions without a model#.. there are thousands of different models that are very different from one another so at this point I can only guess.

i did some research and found that internally microwave heat components are virtually identical and often interchangeable. Testing each of the 5 (capacitor, diode, transformer, magnetron and thermostat) or so components is fairly easy.  Just unplug the unit and be careful with the capacitor because it can give you a hi-voltage shock. YouTube has lots of videos.. Evrything tested out OK but I found a burnt lead to something on teh circuit board that could not be replaced without soldering . OH well not goin to deal wiiith that and probably have to find a new board for an old (LG) mike.
