Hello.
I have a Whrilpool wdf530payw3 dishwasher that is not behaving. I have always ran the heavy duty cycle with the high temp wash. What has been happening lately is that it will get to the part of the cycle where the detergent door opens and then nothing. Sometimes it will fill with water and then sit, sometimes is will not fill with water and then just sit. I can hear a click once in a while. I will then go and restart it and sometimes it will go all the way through. Sometimes I will restart it with a normal cycle and it will work. I have tried turning off the power for 10 minutes or so and then it will work when turning the power back on.

Is this a symptom of the control board dying? Or something else?

Thank you

you should get an error code or a blinking light or series of blinking lights.. this would help pinpoint the issue as most dishwashers these days are run by mini computers and can be difficult to diagnose without some sort of help from the computer

Thank you for replying.

The lights on the front panel remain on. There is not any blinking.

Hello,
If you have a volt meter check this part for continuity.  https://www.appliancezone.com/661566-whirlpool-dishwasher-thermostat/

Would I need to remove the dishwasher to check that? Just making sure before I do so and then find out I didn't need to! Smile

It looks like it is underneath where you remove the dishwasher lower panel/toe plate which is normally just a few screws.. please be sure power is off before pulling any wires or anything.
I am not real familiar with this model so I dont know how things are positioned underneath

Well, just checked the thermostat (oh my back!) and there was continuity between the tabs.

Ok that eliminates that.. reading on the service issues and bulletins with this model another possibility would be the door latch not staying latched.. can you confirm? that would be this part https://www.appliancezone.com/w10619006-whirlpool-dishwasher-door-latch/

The lights do not flash as though the door is open. Opening and shutting the door makes no difference.  And the trouble is constant at the point of the wash cycle where the detergent door opens.
